New Legacy Blogs

Friday December 10, 2010

Our series of courses are meant to help you start learning a new skill like guitar, piano, ballroom dance, drums, painting or photography.  Although the courses are designed to take you from beginner to mastery level, there is just way too much information on each of the topics to fit into the course.  We have lots of different ways to get that additional information, but I wanted to highlight our blogs.

Originally, and not too long ago, this was the only blog we had.  Recently, however, we've had an explosion (well, that might be a bit of an exaggeration) of blogs.  First we upgraded our Student Support Forum and with the upgrade, our forum members can now start a full, dedicated blog within the forum itself.  Next came our Guitar Blog.  The Guitar Blog was a necessary step as we have so much knowledge of guitar and need to find ways to share it.  Then, Gayle Levee, the instructor for the painting course, started a blog on our student support forums.  Last - at least for now - we're planning a photography blog that will launch in the Spring, closer to the release of our photography course.

You can visit our Blogs Page for a portal to all of our blogs. I'll also list them below for you.  We're excited to fill these blogs with lots of great information to help you advance to the next level of whatever skill you are working on!

Gibson's Learn & Master Guitar Blog

This is your source to all things guitar related.  From beginner tips to advanced tricks and everything in between.  You'll also get contests and a few sale announcements...but mainly we'll provide hard-hitting guitar articles.

Student Blogs on the forum

Start your own and join our students in blogging your way through the courses.  Share your successes and struggles and interact with other students.  It's a great way to record your progress.

Gayle Levee's Painting Blog: Observation of an Artist

Gayle posts often about her paintings and life as an artist.  Read some great, inside, painting tips and find out more about improving as an artist yourself!

Vince Wallace's Photography Blog: In Focus

Coming Spring, 2011. In the meantime, sign-up to receive updates on this course.

New Student Community and Forum

Friday October 29, 2010

There have been so many great changes and improvements happening here at Legacy Learning Systems lately.  We recently won the Billboard Music App award for Best Branded App with our Gibson's Learn & Master Guitar App. Last week we announced our new guitar course, Gibson's Learn & Master Guitar.

Today we upgraded our very active Student Community to a new platform - from phpBB to Invision Power Board!

We decided to update our community software for a number of reasons:

  • Allows for more easy interaction between our members
  • Gives members better tools (polls, status updates, reputation management, topic ratings)
  • More robust profiles & personalization (your own blog, photo gallery & calendar)
  • Gives members more control over interactions
  • Better integration with social media like Twitter, Facebook, RSS, Digg, etc.
  • More security & spam prevention (block and ignore users, rate users and posts, report spam)
  • Plus, it will just look better!
  • Our community is truly member-run. With over 15,000 members and topics from "What do I need to know for purchasing a used Fender?" to "If I learn Piano can I play the Organ?" to "Music Theory in Layman's Terms?", you'll be sure to find the answers to your questions. If you can't, simply post it and you won't have to wait too long before you receive an answer (or many!).

Each course has its own forum so that you can interact with the course instructor, other students and experts. Simply join any of the forums below to get started:

Guitar Forum - Instructor Steve KrenzStudent community icon
Piano Forum - Instructor Will Barrow
Drums Forum - Instructor Dann Sherrill
Painting Forum - Instructor Gayle Levée
Ballroom Dance Forum - Jaimee Simon and Mark Short

Here is a quick quote from one of our members about the community:

"Learn and Master Guitar is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. I researched this course and determined I would take a chance on it. I had my doubts, but I took the plunge so to speak. I have not looked back. I thought it was great that we had extra material in the form of the bonus material. Now this brand new forum. We have been given a place to find answers, to discuss and exchange ideas, we can talk privately or openly to each other. We can display our individual talents and progress. We can share with each other.” - Scott, Tucson, AZ

This is a very good place to thank all our members for your contributions.  Whether you've made one post or more than 6,000 posts (yes, we have some!), you are the reason our forum is so helpful, encouraging and a great resource for those learning and playing guitar.  From all here at Legacy Learning Systems, we would like to extend a big.....THANK YOU!!!

Introducing Gibson's Learn & Master Guitar Course

    Monday October 18, 2010

We are super excited to announce the brand new Gibson's Learn & Master Guitar course today!Gibson's learn & master guitar course  It's been news we've sat on for some time now...but no longer.  There's no secret we have been working with Gibson for a while now, the biggest project being the Gibson Learn & Master Guitar app for iPhone.  Steve Krenz, instructor for Gibson's Learn & Master Guitar, had wanted to re-shoot the original Learn & Master Guitar course to update it for a little while.  After the iPhone app project went so well with Gibson, we started thinking, "Hey, what if we co-branded a guitar course?  Well, everyone loved the idea and the relationship with Gibson took another BIG step forward.

"So what's included?" you ask?  I'll tell you:

    • 20 professionally produced DVDs filmed in HD with over 40 hours of instruction.
    • 5 Jam-Along CDs.
    • 100+ page lesson book.
    • Unlimited access to our online student support site.
    • Plus: interesting stories scattered throughout about guitars, Gibson and guitar history!

But don't take MY word for it, here's a video (it's much more authoritative!!)

Along with the Gibson's Learn & Master Guitar course release, you might find that the Learn & Master website has a new look to it too.  We felt this was a great time to update our look and do a little overhaul of the site.  Not everything has changed yet, but will be soon!

Along with the new Gibson's Learn & Master Guitar course and the new site, here are some great resources you might find helpful:

    1. Student Community - a forum for each of our courses to help provide encouragement, answers and tips.
    2. Sample Guitar Lessons - preview a few of the lessons so you know what to expect from the course.
    3. Connect with Gibson's Learn & Master Guitar on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube!
    4. Get the award-winning Gibson Learn & Master Guitar iPhone app
